Come to the Quad Cities and explore the mighty Mississippi River, great historical attractions and neighborhoods, and a riverfront city atmosphere. Learn about our Native American and Civil War history, John Deere heritage, and take in the beauty of our forest preserves and parks. Visit our wonderful museums, galleries, an IMAX Theatre, riverboat casinos, riverboat cruises and unique shopping experiences.
At the only place where the Mississippi River runs east to west, the Quad Cities lines the River with Illinois on one side and Iowa on the other. The Quad Cities area is actually comprised of five major cities: Rock Island, Moline, and East Moline on the Illinois side, and Davenport and Bettendorf on the Iowa side. Divided geographically by the river, yet joined as one community by bridges, the towns in the Illinois and Iowa Quad Cities offer diverse cultural attractions and excellent hospitality.
The Quad Cities area is also home to Arsenal Island, the largest island in the upper Mississippi. Established as a government arsenal by Act of Congress in 1862, today it is home to the largest government-owned munitions plant in the country. Visitors to the Mississippi River Visitors Center on Arsenal Island are able to watch boats and barges 'lock through' Lock and Dam 15, and can also see the world’s largest roller dam at work as it holds back the waters of the Mississippi River. - from weareqc.com
